Dr Stephen Douglas’s Special Interests

Stephen is skilled in a range of Orthopaedic procedures, particularly focusing on hip and knee conditions. His special interests encompass advanced surgical techniques and innovative approaches to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Total Hip Replacement
Total hip replacement involves replacing the damaged hip joint with a prosthetic implant. This procedure is often recommended for patients suffering from severe arthritis or hip fractures, aiming to relieve pain, restore mobility, and improve the overall quality of life.

Hip Resurfacing
Hip resurfacing is an alternative to total hip replacement, particularly suitable for younger patients. Dr Douglas’s experience in hip resurfacing provides patients with an option that preserves more of the patient’s natural bone architecture, potentially offering a more natural joint function and feel.

Total Knee Replacement
Total knee replacement is a common procedure for patients with severe knee arthritis or injury. It involves replacing the damaged knee joint surfaces with artificial implants, which can significantly reduce pain and improve function. Dr Douglas’ approach aims to restore the ideal alignment and ligament balance of the knee, which promotes longevity and a more natural function of the knee replacement.

Partial Knee Replacement
Partial knee replacement is an option for patients whose arthritis is mostly limited to one part of the knee, this procedure involves replacing only the affected compartment of the knee joint. As a less invasive technique, this offers the patient the fastest possible recovery time.

Robotic Arthroplasty
Robotic-assisted arthroplasty is an advanced surgical technique that utilises 3D imaging combined with robotic technology to enhance the precision of prosthesis placement during joint replacements. Dr Douglas employs this technology to create a surgical plan tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy. This approach improves the accuracy of implant positioning, which may lead to improved functional outcomes for patients.

ACL Reconstruction
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a surgical procedure to repair a torn ACL, a ligament in the knee that is often injured during sports activities and is important for pivoting and twisting manoeuvres. Dr Douglas is experienced in reconstructing the ACL using arthroscopic, or keyhole, techniques and help patients return to their active lifestyles with improved knee stability.

Sports Knee Injury Management
Dr Douglas is dedicated to the comprehensive management of sports-related knee injuries. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various knee injuries, such as meniscal tears, ligament injuries, and cartilage damage. His approach is tailored to each patient’s needs, aiming to restore function and facilitate a safe return to sports.
